Ethiopia faces high maternal and perinatal mortality. To combat this, the Global Heartcare Foundation, in partnership with St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College and the Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia, is launching the Women’s Heartcare Program to provide specialized care and strengthen the country’s maternal health system.

The Pediatric Heart Program Initiative (PHPI) in Ethiopia, supported by the Global Heartcare Foundation and the Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia, has gained national recognition for its impactful work in addressing pediatric heart diseases, including training over 20 pediatricians in echocardiography to improve diagnosis and treatment, with ongoing support through 2026.

The partnership between the Global Heartcare Foundation, University of Addis Ababa, and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health has led to key RHD prevention initiatives, including national guidelines on Benzathine Penicillin G.

A team of cardiac specialists, led by Dr. Vibhu R. Kshettry, recently conducted a mission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, performing surgeries and training local healthcare professionals to strengthen the country’s cardiac care system.

The Pediatric Heart Program Initiative launched by the Global Heartcare Foundation, in collaboration with the Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia (CHFE), is a significant step towards improving pediatric cardiac care in Ethiopia.

On July 29, 2024, KCMC began construction of a new Cardiovascular Hospital. The launch of a new facility will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the quality of cardiac care available.
